ABOUT THE FOUNDER

 Christopher N. Williamson, M. A.

Executive Director

Experience:

• 23 year Law Enforcement Officer (State Trooper)

Currently holds the rank of Captain, overseeing an entire Troop, serving as Troop Commander.

• Served on School Improvement Council at Berkeley Intermediate School in Moncks Corner.

• Served as Youth Advocate for South Carolina Youth Advocate Program.

• Serve as a positive role model, leader, and mentor for the community.

Education:

• 1981 High School graduate.

• 1985 graduate of Fayetteville State University with a B.A. degree in Political Science/Minor in Police Science.

• Three (3) time graduate of the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy in Corrections, Basic Police certification, and as a State Trooper.

• 2004 graduate of Webster University with a Master’s Degree in Clinical and Behavioral Counseling.

MISSION

  Our Mission is to provide services to the youth and    their families and serve as advocates to assist them with problem solving issues that will help them grow and become self-sufficient members of society. Williamson Youth Services seeks to address the service needs of first-time offending youth with minor charges, truant or youth suspended from school, and other youth at risk for delinquency.

GOALS

• To promote community youth development.
• Reduce the number of youths in locked settings and institutions.
• Increase community awareness of the needs and problems of troubled youth and their families.
• Care for the youth in their own community.
• Reduce the number of runaway and homeless youth.
• Resolve conflicts between parents and youth.
• Divert youth from the juvenile courts back into the community.
• To increase participants's understanding of the impact of negative and delinquent behavior on victims, family, and community.
• To improve the ability of participating youth to comply with the law and to avoid behaviors that become impediments to education, safety, health, and self-sufficiency.
• To improve the functioning of a mutually supportive relationship among the participating youth, family, school, and immediate community.
• To prevent future or further illegal behavior.
• To improve participaing youth's life skills, social and civic competencies.

BELIEFS

Because delinquent behavior occurs with such variability, the most valid models are those that describe behavior as resulting from a combination of person-centered influences.Therefore, WYS emphasizes matching intervention/mediating efforts to particular sets of deficits and offender characteristics.
